A Catch-22 Situation

Losing your V5C logbook is stressful enough, but it becomes a major problem if you also don't know the vehicle's registration number (number plate).

To get a new logbook from the DVLA, you must fill out a V62 form. However, Section 2 of the V62 form requires you to write down the Vehicle Registration Number. Without it, the DVLA will likely reject your application.

Step 1: Find the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Since you don't have the registration, your only unique identifier is the VIN. This is a 17-character code.

Look through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver's side.

Check the sticker on the driver's side door pillar.

Look under the bonnet on the engine block or bulkhead.

Step 2: Convert the VIN to a Registration Number
